LABAN for Actors

420 Australian dollars
Melbourne Actors Guild

Service Description

When was the last time you focused on your movement? If it was acting school perhaps it's time for a refresh! This weekend workshop takes participants through an embodied investigation of the LABAN foundations and is specifically tailored for actors. With no experience required you'll develop a framework to understand and break bad habits that limit your physicality and range, learn the Bartenieff development movements and biomechanics to understand movement efficiency and learn how to use the body to unlock vocal dynamics and deepen authenticity in performance. Take a deep dive into the LABAN methodology including the effort actions, time, weight, space and flow, somatic and character walks and develop your own physical warm up to take with you! Participants will develop: - Strong observation and physical analysis skills - Tools to remove fear and performance anxiety - Develop presence, body awareness and spatial awareness - Build more efficient and expressive movement Combining science, psychology and artistry; LABAN technique is an analytical bridge between function and expression that is understood and explored through the body. MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Isabella Perversi is a movement coach, actor, writer, and Pilates instructor working at the intersection of performance and embodied practice. Her approach is grounded in Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals, with training through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (New York). A lifelong mover and dancer, Bella brings a deeply integrated understanding of the body shaped by a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) from the Victorian College of the Arts and a professional background across theatre, film, and devised performance. Her work has been recognised through multiple award nominations, including the Green Room Awards and Melbourne Fringe. Isabella’s practice centres on helping people feel at home in their bodies—developing awareness, choice, and expressive range in both everyday life and performance. She works with performers and general clients alike, combining creative exploration with functional, intelligent movement. Alongside her coaching, she is the creator of The Moving Actor podcast (@themovingactor), where she speaks with Australian actors, directors, dancers, and movement practitioners about physical storytelling and the craft of performance.
